Leadership is Global Co-creating a Humane and Sustainable World Global Leadership Network (GLN) co-chairs and Leadership is Global co-editors Walter Link (Europe), Thais Corral (Brazil) and Mark Gerzon (USA) are happy to present you with the first independent, globally designed book on "global leadership" featuring the writings of 22 distinguished co-authors from all around the world. | Click for: | About the book & what we mean by "global" No single author can possibly hope to capture and integrate the awesome complexity of today’s global leadership challenges and opportunities. We need each other to collectively understand and bring to life a new paradigm of leadership and cooperation to address the world’s diverse challenges and opportunities. We therefore invite you to join this crucial dialogue about global developments and inspiring as well as pragmatic leadership approaches, which this book and our network hosts for the co-authors - each writing from the diversity of their individual and cultural dignity, while also representing the potential unity of our shared humanity. A generation ago, more than a dozen women from around the world co-wrote a book called Sisterhood Is Global, which helped to catalyze and define the global women’s movement that changed the world in profound ways. We chose our title out of respect for this and other movements, which crucially advance a new paradigm of civilization and leadership so sorely needed in today’s world in which our many challenges threaten our very survival and limit us from recognizing and implementing our many opportunities. Instead of realizing that "global" solutions require new and integral leadership perspectives and practices, we too often assume that we can apply to the whole world the same old bag of tricks we inherited from our families and cultures, professions and political backgrounds – but these old leadership approaches are exactly what brought us to the brink. Instead, we need to hear and learn from each other. In inspired dialogue and pragmatic implementation, we need to find solutions that arise from the richness of our diversity as well as from the depth of our shared humanity to support our joint sustainability. The global solutions we seek must unite us across all potential divides - ethnicity and culture, religion and politics, societal sectors and social classes, professions and types of organizations, the "inner’ and the "outer’, heart and mind – divisions, which are as problematic and often more unconscious than the national borders we are used to acknowledging. Our definition of ‘global leadership’ therefore attempts to include and bridge all these aspects of our diversity. What the book’s 21 chapters have in common is the focus on leadership in an interdependent world and the ways we can effectively work together. They ask fundamental questions, which today every leader, irrespective of profession or nationality needs to address. Book Launches & First Reactions We were delighted to launch Leadership is Global with an opening keynote and a series of workshops at the 2006 annual conference of the International Leadership Association, one of the world’s premier global organizations devoted to fostering cross-cultural leadership education and practice. Since then, further launches have happened in countries around the world and will continue throughout 2007. We are in discussions with publishers in other countries to bring the book out n diverse languages. Contact us if you want to host a launch or publish the book in your country. Reactions have been very positive. Leaders and leadership practitioners are enthusiastic. Professors have ordered books for their classes and confirmed that this has been the book they have been waiting for to teach Global Leadership. If you have suggestions for a book launch, please le us know.
Book Orders and Funding Leadership is Global is a labor of love for which neither the co-authors nor the co-editors have been paid. In fact only through the financial and in-kind support of GLN and its member, in particular the Global Academy (www.theglobalacademy.org), REDEH (Network for Human Development – www.redeh.org.br) and Mediators Foundation (www.mediatorsfoundation.org) as well as the Shinnyo-en Foundation (www.sef.org), which paid for the first printing and other costs, was it possible to produce and distribute this book to leading thinkers and actors in the field. Leadership is Global is no longer available for sale. For more information about how to support the Global Leadership Network, please contact admin@globacad.org.
